It’s important to note that Canada’s permanent immigration programs often require work experience, but most grads can gain it through a PGWP.
Express Entry is among the quickest routes to PR for students in Canada. But keep in mind that you’ll need to obtain the required score in its scoring system (CRS) to become eligible. This system has 3 programs:
Canadian Experience Class
To qualify for CEC, you must have at least one year of full-time skilled work experience (or an equivalent in part-time) within the last three years.
Federal Skilled Worker Program
If you have at least one year of full-time work experience from outside Canada, the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) program could be your route to permanent residency.
Federal Skilled Trades Program
The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FST) is suitable if you have at least 2 years of work experience in a skilled trade, such as construction, electrical work, or manufacturing. To qualify, you’ll also need a valid job offer in Canada.

PGWP doesn’t directly lead to PR, but the experience gained can help you qualify for programs leading to PR. Graduates of certain DLIs may qualify to obtain a post-study work permit (PGWP). Check the DLI list to know if your institution offers PGWP-eligible programs.
If you graduate from Canadian colleges or educational levels other than bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degrees from Canadian universities, your field of study must be in one of the following areas, as they are considered the best courses to study in Canada for PR:
